A Long Island woman has been arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated with her two young children.
Suffolk County police say the 25-year-old Wyandanch woman was arrested Monday. She was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday on charges of DWI, endangering the welfare of a child and speeding.
Police say she was speeding. They say her children, ages 6 and 4, were in the car.
Police say they smelled alcohol on her breath, her speech was slurred and she failed sobriety tests at the scene.
They say a breathalyzer test showed her blood alcohol level at .11 above the legal limit of 0.08.
A new state law, the Child Passenger Protection Act, this month will make it a felony to drive drunk with children age 15 or younger.
