RIVERHEAD, N.Y. — A Long Island woman has admitted she killed a man in a motorized wheelchair and then drove away.

Lauren Dean pleaded guilty Thursday in Suffolk County Court in Riverhead to vehicular manslaughter, aggravated drunk driving and leaving the scene.

She was driving on Route 25 in Coram in December 2008 when she struck and killed 51-year-old Ranford Beckford. She told police later that she thought she hit a curb.

Acting County Court Judge Martin Efman indicated he will sentence Dean to two to six years in prison. Prosecutors oppose the plea deal and say they will ask for up to nine years when she is sentenced Feb. 24.
