The New York Public Library will unveil an online app today that will analyze reams of 1940 Census data newly released by the federal government.

At the height of the Great Depression, when the survey was taken, “They asked a lot more questions than they do today. It was a very long form,” said Maira Liriano, head of the NYPL’s genealogy division.
