Life-jacket season

ALBANY — A state law requiring boaters to wear life jackets from Nov. 1 to May 1 takes effect this weekend.
The law — enacted after 13 off- season deaths in small boats in recent years — requires everyone on canoes, kayaks, motorboats, rowboats and sailboats less than 21 feet long to wear personal flotation devices.
