RED HOUSE, N.Y. — Authorities say possible human remains have been found in a rugged western New York park where a 92-year-old retired pastor disappeared while hiking in 2010.

State park police tell The Salamanca Press that what appear to be human remains were found Tuesday afternoon by a hiker along a trail in Allegany State Park, on the Pennsylvania border 50 miles south of Buffalo.

Police say the remains were found in the same area of the 66,000-acre park where the Rev. Thomas Hamilton of Great Valley became lost while hiking with his daughter in November 2010. She made it out the next day, but her father’s body was never recovered.

Investigators plan to return to the scene Wednesday to search for more evidence.

Officials say the remains will be sent to a Buffalo hospital for forensic testing.
