The Long Island Rail Road is getting more “quiet cars.”

On Monday, the railroad will add a “quiet car” on all single-level electric trains to Penn Station and Atlantic Terminal during the morning peak hours. It also will add them on trains from those stations during the evening rush.

Loud talkers, phone calls and electronic devices are discouraged on “quiet cars.”

Newsday says conductors use the silent treatment when “shushing” violators. They just hand them a card.
