Officials say commuters on Amtrak, the Long Island Rail Road and New Jersey Transit in and out of Penn Station should expect delays due to unexpected track work in one of the East River tunnels.

LIRR spokesman Joe Calderone says the railroad canceled 12 eastbound trains out of Penn Station Monday night while workers try to fix the track condition. He says commuters can expect 20 to 30 minute delays eastbound.

LIRR says westbound service has been temporarily suspended between Jamaica and Penn Station and between Woodside and Penn Station. NYC Transit is honoring fares at affected stations.

Calderone advise customers to take the E train at Jamaica to complete their trips into Penn Station.
