An accidentally severed cable shut down LIRR service between Penn Station and Jamaica in both directions for over two hours today, according to authorities.
A construction mishap in Queens cut the cable, disrupting the signal system, an MTA spokesman said.
LIRR service was suspended at 9:45 a.m, but has since resumed.
The first train traveling east departed Penn Station at 12:05 p.m. for Babylon.
And a train heading to Penn Station left Jamaica shortly before 12:15 p.m., a spokeswoman said.
