Kids will be able to relish one extra day of summer this year after school officials and labor unions agreed to ring the opening bell a day later than planned.

The move, which is intended to provide teachers with an extra day of training on the Common Core learning standards, pushes the first day of school back from Sept. 7 to 8. The school calendar already includes three additional days above the 180 days mandated by the state.
