HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Health officials are investigating the death of a Long Island girl who may have died of a strain of flu.

The Nassau County Health Department says it is investigating a possible “influenza-associated pediatric death” from the influenza “B” strain.

The girl’s death on Friday was confirmed by the East Rockaway School District, where she attended school.

The victim’s name and age were not released.

The symptoms of the “B” strain are similar to other flu varieties, including fever, chills, coughs and headaches.

The health department says it’s not too late to get a flu shot.
