DEER PARK, N.Y. — Fundraisers hope to revive a program that helps Long Island residents pay their home heating bills.

Project Warmth halted subsidies on Feb. 22 – two months early. Demand has doubled this season.

United Way of Long Island is raising money for the program, which costs $160,000 a month.

About $175,000 has been pledged. But the program can’t be restarted until the funds arrive.

Project Warmth serves people who are not eligible for government assistance, or who have exhausted their benefits.
