BALDWIN, N.Y. — Police say they’ve arrested a Long Island man for repeatedly punching a woman and placing a bag over her head.

Police have charged David Knudson with attempted murder in connection with the attack on the 32-year-old woman in Baldwin Wednesday night.

Police say he punched her in the head and face, placed a garbage bag over her head and then began to choke her.

The victim managed to break free and flee.

Police also charged Knudson with assault, strangulation and other charges.

The 41-year-old suspect was set to be arraigned on Thursday. It was not immediately known if he had obtained a lawyer.
