RIVERHEAD, N.Y. — A Long Island man will serve up to 16 years in prison for severely beating his girlfriend’s 7-year-old son.
Louie Rivera received the sentence Monday in Suffolk County Court in Riverhead.
Rivera, who’s 32, pleaded guilty last month to beating Jordan Moore while watching the boy at his girlfriend’s Brentwood home in April.
Prosecutor Elena Tomaro said Monday that the child had no pulse for 55 minutes after the beating. She said his injuries were so severe “that at one point he was declared dead.”
Rivera and his lawyer, Daniel Barker, declined to make a statement during the sentencing.
