MORRISTOWN, N.J. — Authorities in New Jersey are accusing a psychic who now lives on Long Island of fleecing five people of more than $331,000.
Paula Lee is held on $75,000 bail, charged with theft by deception, failure to pay taxes and other charges.
Morris County Prosecutor Robert Bianchi says his office launched an investigation in 2008 after a person claimed she went to the 36-year-old’s home in Randolph for advice. The person told authorities Lee received $76,000 that was supposed to be returned after it was cleansed.
The prosecutor says investigators spoke to another person in 2010 who claimed the psychic had received $160,000 to “cleanse.”
Three others also came forward.
Lee was arrested in her Hewlett, N.Y., home on Wednesday.
It’s not known if she has a lawyer.
