A Long Island man was sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple sexual assaults, the Suffolk County District Attorney announced Monday.
Raul Guaman was nabbed in November and accused of posing as a rideshare driver, sexually assaulting at least one passenger, and targeting two other women in their Long Island homes.
“Over and over again, this defendant preyed upon young women simply seeking safe passage home after a night out,” Suffolk County DA Raymond Tierney said.
“Now, thanks to the great work of the prosecution team, he has been held responsible for his actions and will spend the next 25 years in jail, where he will be unable to prey upon vulnerable victims.”
Guaman was initially caught on video attempting to break into a home in Brightwaters. In a subsequent interview with police, prosecutors say he admitted to entering the home and sexually assaulting a woman inside where she slept.
Guaman then gave investigators permission to search his phone, where they found images and videos of Guaman engaging in sexual acts with unconscious women as far back as 2015.
He pled guilty in June to charges of sexual assault, burglary, and unlawful surveillance.
The Suffolk County DA’s office confirmed Monday that Immigrations and Customs Enforcement has placed a detainer on Guaman, who is in the country illegally.
