Andy Rooney’s college roommate went into cardiac arrest Wednesday at a memorial for the legendary CBS essayist and despite an initial report that he had died, was revived and rushed to a hospital, TMZ reported.

Bob Ruthman, who had attended Colgate University with Rooney and remained a lifelong friend, was attending the memorial at New York’s Century Club when he went to the restroom and suffered a heart attack, TMZ said.

The entertainment website initially reported he had died, then said he had been revived and was in intensive care at a New York hospital.

TMZ said Rooney’s son Brian had originally announced Ruthman’s death to the memorial-goers.

Rooney, the longtime CBS commentator, humorist, writer and curmudgeon, died Saturday at the age of 92, only weeks after his last appearance on the news magazine “60 Minutes,” where he had spent a 43-year run.
