LOS ANGELES — “Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax” and its enviro-friendly message raked in the green — $70.7 million — in its first weekend, by far the top box-office debut of the year.
Coming in second place, with $20.8 million, was the R-rated “Project X,” about three high-school misfits who throw a raging party in hopes of becoming popular.
Last week’s No. 1 movie, “Act of Valor,” dropped to third place, with $13.7 million. “Safe House” and “Tyler Perry’s Good Deeds” rounded out the top five.
