VERNON, NY — Friday the 13th turned out to be a very lucky day for an upstate Vietnamese immigrant who bought a $5 scratch-off lottery ticket.

The ticket was worth $1 million to Hung Tran, 59, who bought it Jan. 13 at a Utica supermarket.

He was presented with an oversized check yesterday in Vernon.
