A former cargo agent who was pistol-whipped during the 1978 Lufthansa heist has waged an unusual campaign against the feds since the incident — even grousing that a pair of shoes and a $5 bill that were taken as evidence the night of the caper were never returned to him.
Kerry Whelan, 60, now a nurse, testified at accused heist hoodlum Vinny Asaro’s trial Wednesday that his shoes — taken that night to help with footprint examinations — were never given back.
He also claimed that agents seized a $5 bill from his wallet because it had been handled by the intruders, and that he was never reimbursed.
