A 106-year-old water main burst on the Lower East Side early yesterday, turning the intersection of Bowery and Delancey Street into an urban pond and leaving local businesses without water.

DEP officials weren’t sure why the 20-inch pipe ruptured. The floodwaters were pumped out, and traffic was moving smoothly by late morning.
