A major oil group slammed Gavin Newsom for his chauffeured rides after the governor urged Californians to avoid filling up at Chevron stations in a spiteful dig at the gas giant.

On Thursday, Newsom ripped into Chevron with a “pro tip” claiming the company’s “branded” blend costs drivers more at the pump compared to “unbranded” gas.

The attack came after clips went viral showing signs at Chevron stations telling drivers that state policies are to blame for California having the highest gas prices in the nation.

After Newsom’s outburst, the US Oil & Gas Association came over the top by bringing up Newsom’s own driving habits — or lack thereof.

“Pro tip: Don’t take Pro tips from a Politician who hasn’t driven himself anywhere since 2004,” the group wrote in a post on X Thursday that had gotten nearly 100,000 views.

The association’s president doubled down on the criticism in a statement to The California Post.

“It’s interesting how the politicians who are picked up every morning by a black SUV are experts on gas prices but always fail to recognize the impact their bad decisions actually have on gas prices,” Tim Stewart said.

The group had been referencing Newsom’s taxpayer-funded drivers, who ferry the governor between events across the state and leave him out of touch with everyday commuters.

“Chevron works hard to help educate Californians about Sacramento’s energy and tax policies. These adversarial policies have resulted in California losing nearly 18% of its refining capacity in less than a year,” a Chevron spokesperson told The California Post.

“Most Chevron-branded gas stations in California are independently owned and operated. Attacking California’s small businesses like this is deeply unfair and irresponsible. We urge Sacramento to take energy policy seriously and stop making life expensive for California drivers,” they added.

Last year, it was announced that governor was being driven in an all-electric Rivian.

Newsom’s office shot back at the remarks in a statement to the Post.

“You want us to comment on a tweet from an account that apparently has been stalking Gavin Newsom since 2004?” it read.

The US Oil & Gas Association, which touts itself as an advocate for the industry since 1917, works to “promote national public policy that supports exploration and production for the domestic oil and natural gas industry.”

The association — which touts itself as an advocate for the oil industry since 1917 — has frequently gone to war with Newsom over the cost of gas in California and the governor’s green policies that have made it the priciest in America.

“We shouldn’t be boycotting individual oil companies, we should be boycotting the Democrat policies that have given us the highest gas prices in the country,” said Steve Hilton Friday. Hilton is the Republican frontrunner to take Newsom’s seat as California’s next governor.

Hilton also compared a Chevron station in California charging $6.39 a gallon to a Chevron station in Jackson County, Mississippi charging just $3.99 on Friday.

Hilton has vowed that if he is voted into office he has a plan to get the cost of gas to $3 per gallon for Californians.

Newsom’s attack on Chevron Thursday called for a boycott of the gas giant.

“It meets the same state standards to keep your engine running clean, even if it doesn’t have a fancy name like ‘Techron,'” the post on X said.

“Big Oil is already making billions off Trump’s Iran War; don’t let them rip you off even more by overpaying for the brand name,” it added.

“Chevron is aware of the tweet and believes it is an unfortunate attack on two small businesses in the state,” Chevron spokesperson Ron Allen told The Post about Newsom’s call for a boycott.

“Most Chevron stations are independently owned and operated, and in many cases, including this, are run by small business owners,” he continued.

Branded gasoline in the state from the such giants as Chevron, 76, and Valero, costs roughly $0.30 more per gallon than unbranded fuel, according to a 2024 report.

Newsom’s attack on the gas giant happened after signs at Chevron pumps surfaced telling drivers that the reason gas prices in the state are the highest in the nation – is because of Democrats.

“Sacramento policies did this. Now you pay more,” the signs read at pumps across California, paid for by the oil giant, showing a blue SUV entangled in a gas hose for effect.
