A Rockland County man was stabbed to death when he tried to stop a violent thief from stealing his bike steps from a Queens subway station early Monday, prosecutors said.
Nelson Torres, 33, is accused of pushing Spring Valley man Anderson Archila-Martinez off his bike and riding away with it around 12:15 a.m. at the corner of Junction Boulevard and Roosevelt Avenue in Corona, according to a complaint filed in Queens Criminal Court.
When Archila-Martinez tried to retrieve his bike, Torres then stabbed him in the stomach with a knife, according to cops and the court filing.

Torres, 33 — who lived a few blocks from the scene — was arrested by responding cops and charged with first- and second-degree murder, first-degree robbery and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, according to the complaint.
He was ordered held without bail during his Tuesday arraignment and ordered to reappear in court Thursday.
A bike could be seen discarded in the street as police investigate. Robert MeceaArchila-Martinez’s “shattered” family described their slain relative as “a cherished son, a loyal friend, and someone who brought light and laughter to everyone around him,” according to a GoFundMe page seeking donations to help cover his funeral and memorial expenses.
“His loss has left an emptiness in our hearts that words can hardly describe,” the family wrote.
