A 61-year-old man was killed when an early Wednesday blaze ripped through his Queens basement, which was illegally converted into an apartment, officials said.

The fire broke out in the basement of the two-story residence on Bedell Street near 115th Road in Jamaica around 4:30 a.m., officials said.

Colin Cyrus was discovered unconscious and unresponsive — with severe burns — inside the home, police said.

He was pronounced dead on scene by EMS.

No one else was hurt, according to the FDNY.

The blaze, which drew a dozen units with 60 firefighters to the scene, was under control by 5:10 a.m., the FDNY said.

The basement had been converted into an illegal apartment, with a full kitchen, gas stove, a bathroom and full-height partitions, according to the Department of Buildings.

Building inspectors found that the cellar was severely damaged in the blaze, with its interior walls destroyed. The upper floors of the house also sustained moderate fire damage, and a neighboring home had minor damage.

A full vacate order was issued for the home, and residents were offered assistance from the American Red Cross.

Building inspectors also found a large 8-foot by 15-foot structure, made of concrete masonry unit blocks, illegally constructed in the rear yard and attached to the house, the DOB said.

Violations were issued for both the illegal apartment and the rear structure, according to the DOB.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation later in the morning, but there were no immediate signs of criminality.
