YONKERS, N.Y. — A man is accused of leaving his 4-year-old daughter alone on the street in the middle of the night in suburban New York.

Yonkers police say Edwardo Florencio was found at home asleep in a chair with empty beer bottles around him.

The child was discovered wandering in the street at 3:45 a.m. Sunday by a woman who contacted police. Police say the girl told them that she was in a car with her father when he stopped, took her out and then drove off.

Florencio was charged with abandoning a child. The name of his lawyer was not immediately on record.

The child was turned over to her mother, who had been at work.
