Police nabbed a 20-year-old suspect and charges were pending, sources said. The other suspect fled the scene.

Quiej, who is from Guatemala, was assaulted while trying to protect a young man who was being beaten outside his store, eyewitnesses told The Post.

Quiej runs the family-owned Tauros party supply shop at 41-24 54th St. and lives with his wife, Guadeloupe, and two young children, a boy and a girl, above the store.

Felix Ponce, 46, owner of the California Deli next door to the party supply store, said he spoke to Quiej’s sobbing wife , who told him “ two guys beat (Martin) up.”

A neighbor who went to the hospital and saw victim said: he’s “paralyzed from the neck down. He is not responding to anything. They are doing more tests. They hit him in the head hard.

“The doctors told his wife they can’t do anything for him. She is crying and saying, ‘I’m alone now. Who is going to help me with the kids.’ ”
