Police rang up an unusual arrest on Tuesday—busting a man carrying a stolen cash register full of bills on the Long Island Rail Road after he claimed to have bought it from Walmart, authorities said.

The MTA police were called to about 6:50 a.m. Tuesday after a report of an emotionally disturbed man at the LIRR Jamaica station with a cash register, according to a spokeswoman.

Cory Ford, 34, of Newark told the MTA cops he bought it at Walmart—but authorities learned the register was stolen Monday from the
Eloisa Beauty Center in Patchogue, Long Island.

Inside were 89 singles, 9 five-dollar bills, and a $20 bill—a total of $154.

Ford was turned over to the Suffolk police department, who charged him with third-degree burglary. Authorities said he will be arraigned Wednesday.
