A man choked a woman with an electrical cord and tried to rape her on a Brooklyn street early Tuesday, cops said.
The attacker approached the 45-year-old victim as she sat in front of Ziad’s Gourmet deli on Smith Street near Bergen Street in Cobble Hill at about 5 a.m. He offered to buy her a soda and cigarettes at a nearby Rite Aid and the woman agreed, according to police.
After they left the drugstore, the man tried to strangle the victim using a cord at Court and Pacific streets. He then attempted to rape her after trying to cut her clothes off with a knife, police said.
He ran off after the woman began to scream.
Reached by phone, the owner of Ziad’s said the attack came as a shock.
“That never happens in this neighborhood,” said Rajab Khashman, 52.
