A crazed man tried to scale the New York Times building today, but only made it to the fifth floor of the 52-story building before he was caught, police said.

Cops got a 911 call at 7 a.m. reporting the man was climbing the building on Eighth Avenue at 41st Street — and they had him in custody just five minutes later.

On the ground, the unidentified man said he climbed the building because he was looking for a copy of the newspaper.

He was taken to Bellevue Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, authorities said. He was not injured.

Three men climbed the building’s ladder-like facade in separate incidents in 2008. Two made it to the roof, and one got to the 11th floor.
