A man was critically injured in the Bronx Thursday morning when he was shot in his car during a botched robbery — as his girlfriend looked on, police said.
The 26-year-old had left High Life Deli and Grocery on Grand Concourse around 3:30 a.m. and had just gotten into his Honda sedan when the gunman — who had followed him out of the store — approached and demanded his belongings.
After a brief struggle, the stranger pulled out a gun and opened fire on the man, shooting him once in the chest as his girlfriend watched from the passenger seat, police said.
The wounded man then hit the gas and crashed into parked cars before coming to a stop.
He was rushed to Lincoln Hospital in critical but stable condition.
The shooter fled on foot. Police described him as wearing a blue or black Nike top with a white shirt underneath.
