A 23-year-old was struck and killed on the Staten Island Expressway, authorities said.

Police say Nelson Coelho, of Kearney, NJ, was trying to cross the highway before the horrific high-speed accident near Exit 5 at about 5:45 p.m. Wednesday.

The victim was struck by a Toyota Camry. He was taken to Richmond University Medical Center in critical condition, suffering from cardiac arrest, authorities said.

Coelho later died from his injuries.

No criminality is suspected.
