A man fell into the tracks at the 72nd Street station this morning, causing a brief commotion in the station and holding up trains during rush hour.

The man was waiting on the northbound platform of the 1 train at 9:30 Friday morning when he suddenly plunged off the platform onto the tracks below. There was no train approaching the station at the time, said MTA officials.

There was a 10 minute delay on 1 trains as the man was pulled out of the tracks and trains were held in other stations, officials said.

There was not immediately word on whether he was injured.
