A man was busted this week for fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend in Brooklyn – just weeks after he was released for allegedly menacing her with a knife, and months after he was paroled on robbery charges that kept him in jail for 25 years, according to police and public records.
Israel Elves, 56, shot his former flame Hope Pearson, 42, multiple times in the lobby of an apartment building on Rockaway Parkway near Winthrop Street in Brownsville around 1:15 a.m. Monday, cops said.
Police found her unconscious and unresponsive, and EMS rushed her to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Pearson, 42, was shot multiple times and died at Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, cops said. Robert MeceaElves was arrested a day later – and told authorities he shot Pearson because she took out an order of protection and “was threatening to use that against him,” police said.
He was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
Elves was arraigned Wednesday and ordered held without bail, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office.
Elves told authorities he shot Pearson because she took out an order of protection and “was threatening to use that against him,” police said. Robert MeceaElves lives down the block from the scene, and the victim lived less than a mile away, according to cops. Their connection to the building where the crime occurred was not immediately known.
The couple has a domestic incident history, according to police.
Most recently, on July 25, Elves allegedly menaced Pearson with a knife, a criminal complaint shows. He was released on his own recognizance because the charges were not bail-eligible, according to the DA’s office.
The couple had a domestic incident history, cops said. Robert MeceaHe was also paroled in March after serving nearly 25 years on first- and second-degree robbery charges, records show.
He was also conditionally released after serving more than five years in connection to a 1990 weapons possession conviction.
He was previously conditionally released after serving more than three years behind bars stemming from a 1985 assault, robbery and attempted assault conviction.
