A man who had been shot in the head was discovered dead inside a burning car early Saturday, police and sources said.
Authorities responded to a call for a flaming vehicle just before 2 a.m. near the intersection of Court Street and Bay Street in Red Hook, officials said.
When firefighters put out the blaze, they found a man lying in the passenger seat of the silver Ford Fiesta, cops said.
He had been shot in the head, sources said.
The body found in the burning car is transported away by authorities.Mark Mellone The victim, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“We heard a loud boom and then we heard footsteps, and then another loud boom,” said Cori Weber, who lives in the R.V. parked behind the charred car and said she was startled by the “loud explosion.”
“When it happened…we actually came outside and we saw the body there,” she told The Post. “We found out that he was actually shot and put in the car and [they] burned it.”
Weber said she and her husband had never seen the scorched car before.
“It wasn’t there when we got home [around 10:30 p.m.]. I don’t know where it came from,” she added.
It was not immediately clear whether how the man was killed, although investigators are looking into whether the fire was set to cover a shooting, sources said.
The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
