A man was found dead on a park bench in Washington Square Park Sunday morning, police said.
A parks employee discovered the 55-year-old man’s body slumped over a bench in the middle of the park, about 100 feet from the center fountain, police said. He wore a hospital gown and a medical bracelet from Saint John’s Episcopal Hospital. Crack was found near his body.
Police do not suspect foul play in the man’s death, a police source said. Medical examiners will determine exactly what killed him.
The man had a history of drug and alcohol abuse and was homeless, the source said.
Cops are withholding the man’s identity until they can locate his family.
