A Brooklyn man accused of brutally beating a man while yelling anti-gay slurs was let loose without an assault charge because of “technical issues” — and now police are hunting for the out-on-bail brute so he can be charged with assault as a hate crime, according to cops and court records.

Ivan Pabellon, 35, was arrested for savagely punching a surprised David Jimenez, 40, who was walking his dogs and was left with black eyes and a broken nose in September, cops said.

But Brooklyn prosecutors charged Pabellon only with a misdemeanor drug charge, allegedly for a small amount of cocaine — failing to hit him with any assault charges, court records show.

“The perp was processed in court for the possession of his drugs,” said a police source.

The reason prosecutors didn’t charge Pabellon with assault is because of an issue with the initial identification of Jimenez’s attacker — so there was insufficient evidence to hit him with an assault rap, a law-enforcement source said.

“We are continuing to investigate . . . and other charges against Pabellon are possible,” a Brooklyn DA spokeswoman said Thursday.

“We know who the perpetrator is. We’re currently looking for him,” said the police source.
