A man jumped to his death from the George Washington Bridge Thursday, police said.

The unidentified man, 21, had driven his car to the middle of a Manhattan-bound lane, parked, and then leaped over the edge just before 1 p.m., authorities said.

He was removed from the water and pronounced dead.

The upper level of the bridge has a safety fence and netting, but it was not immediately clear where the man jumped from, a spokesperson for the Port Authority Police said.

The medical examiner will determine the official cause of death.
