A speeding BMW barreled through a metal fence and struck a home in The Bronx on Sunday morning, killing the driver and nearly hitting a woman and children nearby, cops said.
The driver was zooming around Williamsbridge at about 6 a.m. when he struck several vehicles and then the house at 784 S. Oak Drive, police said.
The vehicle nearly struck a woman and two young children on the street before hitting the side of the house, a police source said.
“The woman was able to grab the children and pull them out of harm’s way,” the source said, pointing out that more people would have been walking by if it hadn’t been so early.
Isiah Greene, 52, who lives in the neighborhood, said he tried to help the driver, to no avail.
“I heard a car racing down the street and then smashing into other cars,” he said. “It crashed through the front gate. I ran up to the car to help the guy, but he was gone, dead.”
The name of the driver who was in his 40s, wasn’t immediately released.
Nobody inside the home was injured, cops said.
