A man arrested for allegedly attacking his wife committed suicide yesterday after surrendering at a Manhattan precinct, police said.

Alexander Gonzalez, 40, was found hanging from his shirt at around 3:20 p.m. inside a holding cell in the Midtown South Precinct on West 35th St.

Gonzalez, who was alone in the cell as cops processed his arrest, was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital.

Earlier in the day, at 7:15 a.m., police had responded to a domestic violence call at Gonzalez’s midtown apartment. His 33-year-old wife told cops that he had assaulted her and fled.

She was treated at an undisclosed hospital and released.
