A man who leaned forward on a Greenwich Village subway platform to check if the train was coming was struck in the head by the approaching locomotive and knocked unconscious, sources said.

The victim was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition after the bizarre accident at 4:20 p.m. in the 1/2/3 station on West 14th Street and Seventh Avenue, sources added.

The man – whose identity wasn’t immediately released – was hit in the head by an uptown bound ‘2’ train and knocked backward onto the platform, again striking his head, according to a witness.

Trains were temporarily halted and the police and MTA officials are on scene investigating.
