The Queens district attorney says a man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for a random attack on a woman as she walked home from grocery shopping.

Carlos Salazar Cruz faces 22 years to life in prison when he is sentenced on March 28.

The brutal attack occurred on May 16, 2010 in Flushing, Queens.

Authorities say Cruz struck the victim’s head with a pipe and dragged her by the hair into an alleyway.

Yu Yao suffered a fractured skull, bleeding on the brain and lower-body trauma. She died later at a hospital. She was 23 years old.
