A muttering nut randomly pushed a straphanger onto Manhattan subway tracks Saturday night, prompting other riders to scramble to get the victim to safety, according to the NYPD.
The 44-year-old victim, who lives on the Upper West Side, was suddenly shoved onto the tracks of the No. 1 train at the 50th Street and Seventh Avenue station at 7:50 p.m., cops and law-enforcement sources said.
The attacker had been talking to himself before randomly approaching the man, who suffered facial injuries and leg injuries but was able to make it back onto the platform with the help of good Samaritans before coming into contact with a train, police and sources said.

Photos show the straphanger dripping blood from the knee and with an apparent abrasion on his forehead as he is wheeled out of the train station by the FDNY.
As he was lifted on a stretcher into the back of the ambulance he even mustered a smile, according to photos.

Cops are currently searching for the suspect, who was described as around 6 feet tall and wearing a white shirt, black shorts and a black backpack.
