A retired Manhattan attorney says his personal assistant helped herself to nearly $400,000 of his dough while he was injured.
Stuart Wechsler, 84, hired Ilsa Alejandra Hernandez in 2013 as he recovered from a fall-related injury. But she quickly helped herself to his bank accounts, according to a lawsuit he filed against the Queens woman.
Hernandez, 27, was supposed to have the “skills of both a nurse and an accountant,” to help Wechsler run errands, pay bills and manage his finances as he healed.
“Everybody trusted her,” he told The Post.
Instead, she used his ATM card to make hefty withdrawals of $2,000, wrote checks to herself, forged his signature and ultimately stole $394,000 over the course of two years, he alleges in Manhattan Supreme Court papers.
The theft continued after she was fired in January, he claims.
Hernandez hooked her iPhone and son’s iPad up to Wechsler’s Dish Network account, and “they continue to be used by the defendants to this day,” the lawsuit says.
“Hopefully justice will be done at some point,” Wechsler said.
Hernandez could not be reached for comment.
