Police in Long Island shot a suspected drunk driver in the shoulder Sunday after he dragged an officer with his car and led them on a miles-long chase, sources said.

The officers believed the 34-year-old motorist may have been intoxicated and stopped him in a parking lot on the on Sunrise Highway South Service Road in Patchogue, Suffolk County, around 2:30 a.m.

During the stop, the man took off suddenly, dragging one of the officer’s for a short distance as he tried to prevent the driver from leaving, injuring his arms and legs.

Cops followed the man for around five miles before pulling him over on North Ocean Avenue in Medford.

When the cops approached the vehicle, a struggle ensued and an officer shot the driver in the shoulder before taking him into custody.

He was rushed to Stony Brook University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, sources said.

The officer who was dragged was treated for minor injuries at the same hospital.

The incident is still under investigation and the suspect has not been identified or charged.
