A 78-year-old employee at a Kips Bay tailor shop was stabbed several times during an attempted robbery Monday, police said.
The elderly worker was inside Apel’s New Day Tailor Shop on East 27th Street near Third Avenue when a man in his 40s walked in, pulled a knife and demanded money around 12:45 p.m.
When the tailor refused, a struggle ensued and the suspect stabbed him twice in the chest.
The would-be thief slashed the man’s face before running out of the shop and disappearing. Police are still looking for him.
The victim was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition and is expected to survive, officials said.
