An elderly Brooklyn man was clinging to life Saturday evening after being hit by an unlicensed driver in Borough Park, authorities said.
The 67-year-old victim was crossing 43rd street between 12th Avenue and Fort Hamilton Parkway just before 6 p.m. when he was struck by a minivan backing into a parking space, according to police.
“I saw him walk between parked cars. The guy obviously didn’t see him, and I thought, he’s going to get hit!” said Robert Garcia, a local resident who witnessed the accident. He said both the driver and the victim were his neighbors.
Garcia, a former paramedic from Mexico, gave the victim first aid until emergency responders arrived. He was taken to Maimonides Hospital in critical condition.
Cops say the 43-year-old driver driver was charged with not having a license.
