An elderly man was struck by a car after tripping on a sewer grate while trying to cross the street in Chinatown on Sunday morning, witnesses and police sources said.

The man was walking across Elizabeth Street around 10 a.m. when he tripped and “fell into a car coming up [the street] and he hit his head hard,” said Sal Soto, who works nearby.

“He passed out. He didn’t look good.”

The victim was rushed to Bellevue Hospital with severe head trauma. His condition was not immediately clear.
