ELMIRA, N.Y. — A man sought in a double shooting in New York City has been arrested after a five-hour standoff at an upstate home.

Elmira media outlets report that the standoff began after New York detectives alerted Elmira police Wednesday morning that 26-year-old Peter Carrion was staying at a home in the upstate city.

SWAT team members surrounded the house. A couple who came outside was taken into custody by officers who didn’t know that the couple’s 7-month-old child was still inside the house with Carrion.

Officials say SWAT members entered the home around 2:30 p.m. and Carrion surrendered peacefully. The child was unharmed.

Police say Carrion is wanted for the Sept. 23 wounding of two men in the Bronx. He was taken downstate by police later Wednesday.
