The male jogger who ran the same trail as Howard Beach beauty Karina Vetrano — and then disappeared after her murder — has talked with cops and is not considered a suspect or even witness, police officials said Tuesday.

The man came forward after Vetrano’s father went on the radio Monday night urging him to speak with detectives. Philip Vetrano said he had spotted the man running in the same area as his daughter “almost every day” before he “dropped off the face of the earth” after her murder in Spring Creek Park on Aug. 2.

The male jogger had been laid up in bed with a knee injury for the past few weeks, and that’s why Vetrano’s dad hadn’t seen him around the time of the slaying, authorities said.

“He’s a 48-year-old man who hurt his knee and stopped jogging. Nothing more heinous than that,” NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce told reporters, adding that the man came to cops after hearing Philip Vetrano’s remarks on “The Drive at Five” with Curtis Sliwa.

“He’s not a subject at all,” Boyce said. “We spoke to him last night. He voluntarily came into the precinct, and we sat down, and we talked to him. He self-identified as that person that Phil would see jogging prior to that. It was just an injury.”

Officials added that they have recovered DNA at the scene but were unable to find a match in their database.

“A DNA profile was developed from three parts of the investigation: from the victim’s phone, Karina’s phone, from touch DNA from her neck, and also … other parts of her person,” Boyce said.

“We were able to identify a DNA profile. We put that into our database, and there was no nationwide hit on it or any state hit on it.”

Boyce added that investigators still believe Karina was killed in a random attack.

“We don’t believe this has anything to do with Karina’s background,” he said. “There’s nothing to suggest anyone in her past would do this to her.”
