An Elmhurst man will spend six months in Rikers for trying to sell a rare and valuable tortoise that had been stolen from a Queens environmental center, Queens DA Richard Brown announced Thursday.

Shawn Waters pleaded guilty to fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property for hocking the African Spurred tortoise, whose name is Millenium (sic), to a Connecticut man.

Center workers realized the 100-pound tortoise, worth roughly $2,500, was missing on July 16, 2017.

Cops arrested Waters after he took the reptile to Connecticut and traded it to an animal collector for a musk turtle and $300, prosecutors said.

The Connecticut man realized the tortoise he received may have been Millenium and alerted the NYPD.

“Millenium the tortoise’s summer escapade that included crossing state lines has drawn to a close with today’s sentencing of the defendant,” Brown said. “The rare reptile is safely ensconced in his habitat and now the defendant, who admitted to possessing the stolen tortoise, will be confined to Rikers Island for the next six months.”
