Manhattan’s sleek new Marriage Bureau was a hot spot for couples tying the knot last year, while the city’s four other bureaus lost business.
The new digs in lower Manhattan, which opened in January 2009, issued 27,637 licenses and conducted 17,809 ceremonies last year — both increases over 2008, when it gave out 26,871 licenses and held 15,709 ceremonies.
“I guess New York is ready to give Vegas a run for its money,” said Rebecca Dolgin, executive director of wedding planner The Knot.
